Laser Cut Gears
Cutting flat involute gears from plywood, acrylic, or MDF with the SVG downloads on this site.
Every gear page's SVG download is a clean, single-path outline plus a bore circle — exactly what laser-cutter software like LightBurn or LaserGRBL expects for a vector cut job. Set the outline to a hairline/vector stroke (not a fill) in your cutter software so it's treated as a cut path, not a raster engrave.
Kerf matters more for laser-cut gears than for 3D-printed ones: a 0.1–0.2 mm laser kerf removes material from every edge, which slightly undersizes a gear cut exactly to the nominal profile. Most laser software has a kerf-offset setting; if yours doesn't, cut a test gear first and compare its measured pitch diameter against the parameter table on the gear's page.
Flat-cut gears only work well for spur (straight-tooth) profiles, which is exactly what this catalog contains — helical or bevel teeth need a 3D process instead.
Material notes
- 3–6 mm plywood/MDF — the most common choice; module 1–2 gears hold their teeth well at this thickness.
- Acrylic — cuts cleanly and shows the tooth profile clearly, but is more brittle at fine (module 0.3–0.5) tooth tips.
